Ariane Bourdain is American celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain’s daughter. She’s the famous chef’s only child; however, despite her father being well-known, Ariane is rarely seen in public.
Ariane Bourdain is the daughter of the late author, celebrity chef, and travel documentarian Anthony Bourdain. Her mother, Ottavia Busia, had a twenty-year age gap from her father. The 15-year-old’s dad once revealed that she gave her a feeling of being a “TV dad.” The late chef expressed this in the documentary “Roadrunner,” about his life and successful career.
In one part of the film, Ariane’s father detailed how he spent his whole life wondering what it’s like to have a child and a family and barbeque burgers in the backyard. He said he’s “ridiculously stupid happy” when he imagines that.
Regarding how old he was when he finally became a dad, Anthony expressed that he was “old enough to be qualified for the job.”
Ariane’s father also expressed in “Roadrunner” how he enjoyed his life traveling the world and seeing “amazing things. However, he said nothing made him happier than when he’s “standing in the backyard being like, TV dad” because he felt normal. When Ariane was born, Anthony Bourdain felt the happiest when he was at home doing things like a TV dad.
Birth of Ariane
Ariane Bourdain was born in 2007 when her father was fifty years old. During an interview with the Guardian in 2007, Anthony Bourdain revealed how he felt being a father to his daughter.
He started talking about his daughter by describing a photo of him with her when she was four years old, and they were in the Cayman Islands. The chef further detailed how Ariane was sitting on his lap with her eyes closed, and he was holding her tightly. He also talked about how his face was sunburned “with the joys of fatherhood.
Regarding how old he was when he finally became a dad, Anthony said he was “old enough to be qualified for the job.” The doting dad said his daughter had him “wrapped around her finger” and hoped that she felt loved, had “high self-esteem,” and also “good martial arts skills.”
Ariane Bourdain’s father also spoke to USA Today in 2016 and shared how much he enjoyed fatherhood. He spoke about the memories he had with his dad and the ones he was creating with his daughter and further said:
“I am very much enjoying the fatherhood phase of my life. I used to love it when my father made pancakes for me… I am grateful to my daughter and her friends… for making brunch fun again!”
Ariane Had the Best Time with Her Father
Ariane Bourdain and her dad had a lot of fun times together. In the late chef’s biography titled “Bourdain: The Definitive Oral Biography,” Ariane revealed how she spent time with Anthony and how great he was as a dad.
The father and daughter had this tradition of going to the Palisades in New Jersey, climbing a mountain, and then going to a hot dog place every Father’s Day. Ariane revealed that her dad had been going there since he was young. Their other favorite place was Sip ‘n Soda at the Hamptons, where they drank lime rickeys.
Anthony Bourdain and his little girl also watched “Archer,” Ariane pretended to cut her dad’s hair and played with him “all the time.” They always cooked together, especially ratatouille from the film “Ratatouille,” schnitzel, omelets, and pancakes. They also went to eat at restaurants they are not supposed to eat at and had a Weirdo Club, which she “really liked.” Ariane said her dad “encouraged weirdness.”
Ariane Is Rarely Seen in Public
When Ariane Bourdain’s father’s documentary “Roadrunner” was released, most people noticed that she occasionally appeared in it. Most also wonder why they can’t see much of Ariane these days.
The documentary director Morgan Neville told the Daily News in 2021 that Ariane’s parents decided to keep her out of the spotlight. Morgan also said that many of Ariane’s childhood photos were in the documentary, and now that she’s older, he said he felt it would be crossing the line if they included more of her.
The only time Ariane is seen on social media is on her mother Ottavia’s Instagram. Her mom once shared how Ariane paid tribute to her on Mother’s Day.
